Katharine Hepburn's Brownies

In honor of a fine actress, who was in many wonderful films and also devised this fantastic recipe for brownies.

½ c. unsalted butter (1 stick)

2 oz. unsweetened chocolate

1 c. sugar

2 eggs

½ t. vanilla

1/4 c. flour

½ t. salt

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Butter and flour an 8-inch square pan.

Melt the butter and chocolate together in a medium saucepan and remove from heat. Stir in the sugar, eggs and vanilla, and beat until smooth. Stir in the flour and salt. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for approximately 40 minutes (I start checking after 25, but I like my brownies very fudgy). Serve warm or at room temperature, with coffee ice cream or without.
